A PINCH OF US
A PINCH OF SALT, a family venture which started in 2016, is involved in the manufacturing of handicraft salt products. The owner was the manager of two salt pans in Tamarin and Black River for 10 years. In December 2015, when the two salt pans closed, Joseph decided to continue the adventure and started his own business.
A Pinch of Salt is all about family, tradition and authenticity, which is why all members of the family are part of this adventure since day one.
Jonathan, his son as a Chef is sharing his experience for different blending adding our special Mauritian touch.
Eloise, his daughter as a designer, brings her know-how, creativity and inspiration for new products development and packaging.
Brigitte, his wife, takes care of the administration.
We focus on our sustainable brand and work hard to identify and prioritize new opportunities for improvement across the business.

A PINCH OF HISTORY
In 1726, the first salt pan was built in the South-East of Port-Louis by Jean Dominique Caudan, who came to l’Isle de France (Mauritius) from his native Languedoc.
Saunier by trade, he signed a contract with the Indies Company, with the aim of replenishing ships and preserve foodstuffs.
The salt production continued into the 19th and 20th centuries around Port-Louis and in Tombeau Bay. Throughout the years, the salt pans were moved to the South-West of the island, in Black River and Tamarin, due to more favourable weather conditions.
